Jon Watts is an indie director who quickly rose to fame from the very beginning. He gained recognition with his intense police drama, Cop Car, and soon made his way into the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he helmed the incredibly successful Spider-Man trilogy. After that, he returned to the crime genre, delivering two of the most talked-about films in recent memory. It’s been quite an impressive career so far. Wolfs Movie Review However, his latest film, Wolfs, feels like a bit of a detour rather than a natural next step for someone coming off such big projects.

Wolfs Movie Review

The Signature Movie Review…..

Wolfs comes across as a sleek, visually appealing film with high production values, but it struggles to justify why it was made. While every film has the right to exist for the sake of storytelling, the story Wolfs attempts to tell doesn’t seem to warrant the level of time, money, and effort put into it. Despite the polished look, the narrative feels lacking in purpose, leaving you wondering if it was really worth the investment.

Jon Watts returns to his roots as a writer-director, much like he did with Cop Car, but this time he’s flying solo. The premise of two fixers struggling to work together without killing each other sounds promising, but it falls short of sustaining the suspense or comedy that Wolfs aims for throughout its runtime. The film starts off strong with a characters first act that introduces the characters and establishes the scenario. However, it soon loses its pace and begins to meander, leaving the audience with the impression that it lacks a clear direction.

A film doesn’t always need a clear direction when it comes to the plot; sometimes, just following the characters can be enough—if they’re interesting. Unfortunately, Wolfs tries hard to give its two main characters, Jack and Nick, some depth, but it falls short. Instead of fully developed, three-dimensional characters, they feel like rough sketches of something more. What we’re left with are the actors carrying roles that don’t quite live up to their potential.

Pitt and Clooney do their best to bring charm to the dialogue, but the movie tries a bit too hard to seem cool. The comedy doesn’t land as well as the film seems to think it does—it’s like meeting someone who believes they’re funny, but they’re really not. That’s exactly what watching Wolfs feels like. It’s good enough to keep you occupied for a while, but it doesn’t quite capture your attention in a way that sticks with you.

Wolfs Movie Review: Performances

Clooney and Pitt are the main reasons to watch this film. Having previously teamed up in the successful Ocean’s franchise, their chemistry here is just as strong. Their charm is what makes Wolfs watchable, as they elevate the dialogue and carry every scene. Clooney appears to be completely engaged, whereas Pitt seems to be taking it easy, relying on the relaxed vibe he’s embraced lately—almost resembling a calmer version of Tyler Durden.

Austin Abrams truly shines in the film, surpassing the performances of the two seasoned actors alongside him. Lately, Abrams has been impressive, taking on various roles in different films and showcasing his incredible range. In Wolfs, he brings a captivating energy that makes him always fun to watch, even if the script doesn’t quite match his level of enthusiasm or delivery.
